Marking number in constructions with numerals: A typological study

Abstract. This paper provides an overview of various strategies of expressing nominal number in contexts without numerals and in contexts with numerals. The purpose of the study is to identify as many different conditions of number marking as possible, as well as to verify the relationship between the expression of a number in noun phrases with numerals and its expression in noun phrases without numerals. Special attention is paid to the effect of animacy hierarchy on the presence of a marked number.
